The last of Korea¡¯s empress of Emperor Gojong(1863~1907), the 26th ruler of the Joseon Dynasty, was a keen diplomat who pursued openness and reformation throughout her life while maintaining her sovereignty. Empress Myeongseongs tumultuous life came to an end on the dawn of October 8, 1895 when she was murdered by the Japanese Samurai. Mok-A Museum of Buddhist Art is the Intangible Cultural Property No. 108, a collection of over 6,000 Buddhist relics collected by Mok-A Park Chan-su. The three-story museum (3 upper levels and 1 lower level) displays Buddhist paintings, statues and other Buddhist relics and crafts. Outside there is a sculpture park complete with Buddhist sculptures and statues. Of the artifacts on display at the museum, three are national treasures. The majority of the other items are those that have been handed down in various temples throughout the country for many years.
